About Obra Verde Growers

Founded in 1974 by Joe and Julie Walker, Obra Verde Growers is located in the lush foothills of northern San Diego County, California. Obra, a Spanish word with a triple meaning, is defined as work, product and virtue. Verde is also a Spanish word meaning green.

Obra Verde Growers began with a few varieties of waxflower that were being commercially grown in the area. Sensing the need for a propagator of waxflower and other interesting cultivars, Obra Verde seized the opportunity and began to dig its niche. Over the last 30 years, Obra Verde has expanded its operation to over 100 varieties of mostly Australian, New Zealand and South African species.

The Australian Connection

Today, Obra Verde Growers is proud to have an exclusive agreement with the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) and the University of Western Australia (UWA) at Perth, to release and market the newest and best hybrids of waxflower developed in their research station. What this means for our customers is that the latest, hardiest and most unique varieties are only available in North America from Obra Verde.

Our selections from other countries are all trialed here for unique characteristics, hardiness and level-of-care before they are offered to our customers. We also specialize in field preparation and consultation services.

Customer Guarantee

Obra Verde's continued success is attributed to the dedication and enthusiasm of its staff and crew. Many of our employees have been with the company over 20 years and have developed a varied and professional knowledge of the particular varieties grown.

Obra Verde Growers will always strive for the quality and choice that our customers deserve. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority.
